This is part 2 of my Favorites from Art Shows. Go here if you missed Part 1. As I mentioned last week, this is more than just sharing my favorite artists. It’s about doing something that restores you. Art shows do that for me. Art shows fill me up. What did you do this past week to fill yourself up? Remember, we can only create and give out from what is inside of us. If art fills you up, may these postings be a way to help fill you up. Enjoy.
JD Hillberry
This artist’s work is amazing! He creates pencil and charcoal drawings that really, truly look 3D—as you can see in the image above. His attention to detail, his skill with charcoal and pencil are astounding. If you ever get a chance to see this artist’s work in person, you will not forget it. He shares on his site, “Although I try to push the limits of realism in a black and white medium, simply imitating reality isn’t my primary goal. I use the technical skills I have developed to tell a story or evoke an emotion.” Indeed, he successfully does just that in his artwork. Visit his site to see more samples of his work.
Tim Zandee Photography
Tim Zandee’s photography is one of the best I’ve come across. He’s been a favorite of mine for several years. He’s known for his patience—patiently waiting for just the right shot. In doing so, he hopes that we, too, slow down to see the beauty and the creativity not only in his work, but also in our own lives. One of my favorite things about Tim’s work is the story he includes with each of his pieces. By each photography is a 1-2 paragraph narrative about that particular shot. The story draws you in, it takes you to the moment, you can hear the click of his camera as you stand in the midst of the amazing beauty.
Doors To The Old World
Pat and Emi Kanan take us to the sites and sounds of the “Old World”—Europe. As mentioned on their website, “Life is measured not by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away.” They do a fantastic job of doing just that. Enjoy more of their breath-taking images on their site.
