Sweat the Small Stuff

Working
“What if work wasn’t just work? What if work was a vehicle to live and share a bigger purpose?” -Jon Gordon

We often think our ‘job’ gets in the way of really making a difference in this world. I’ve done that myself. But the author of the quote above effectively reminds us it’s often what we don’t see that makes the biggest difference.

He goes on to share stories:

  • I heard of a janitor who worked at NASA. And even though he was sweeping floors, he felt his bigger purpose was contributing to put a man on the moon.
  • I met a bus driver who knows his purpose is to help kids stay off drugs.

What are some small things we do, often daily, that are for a bigger purpose?

  • reading to children (Who knows who they will be someday?)
  • sharing a smile with a stranger (It may be that smile that encourages them to go on.)
  • talking with the check out clerk (It gives them value.)
  • placing that stray shopping cart back in the rack (Keeping the world a better place.)
  • praying (Heaven moves through our prayers.)
  • sending a card (A note showing appreciation for who they are.)

What about you? What are some of the ‘small’ things you do that has a bigger purpose?
