We tend to live and think in the ‘Or’ mentality. I am outgoing or quiet. I am decisive or flexible. I am tough minded or tender hearted. Doug Conant, CEO of Campell’s soup, challenges that thinking. He says the leadership principle that most changed him was the ‘and’ way of thinking. He is tough minded and tender hearted. from Leadership Freak
To expand on his thoughts…
‘And’ is freeing. “Or’ is living within a box.
‘And’ explores possibilities. ‘Or’ eliminates options.
‘And’ expands. ‘Or’ encloses.
‘And’ lets me be who I need to be in different situations. ‘Or’ holds me back.
‘And’ energizes, ‘Or’ drains.
‘And’ embraces others. ‘Or’ turns others away.
‘And’ brings variety. ‘Or’ doesn’t.
‘And’ is exciting. ‘Or’ is boring.
‘And’ is colorful. ‘Or’ is monotone.
‘And’ dances. ‘Or’ hides.
What else? How has ‘and’ thinking or ‘or’ thinking affected your life?
